Design Platform

Project Outline

Website architecture is an approach to the design and planning of websites that involves technical, aesthetic and functional criteria. As in traditional architecture, the focus is on the user and on user requirements. This requires particular attention to web content, the business plan, usability, interaction design, information architecture and web design. With literally dozens of mobility products and accessories, we had to focus on creating the site map of the the Nova website to be easy to navigate…it had to make sense. Proper grouping of categories was essential to ensuring the site’s success, while keeping visitors engaged throughout, with product information, feature videos, and store locators, so that they could find their nearest NOVA retailer.

The design of this website made me rethink the way that I have traditionally approached product-based/end-user websites. Normally I would gather several lifestyle photos, with the purpose of allowing the visitor to see themselves using the product…but the truth is, no one wants to acknowledge their own need for mobility products. So I needed to focus on the products. I was charged with the enormous task of creating brand recognition and excitement, with one exception…no lifestyle images. So I shifted my focus to the excitement and vibrancy that the company exudes throughout, which I believe leant itself nicely to the design that I delivered…and the company agreed.

Being a mobility industry leader, it was imperative that NOVA’s website could be easily viewed on any device. Not only was multi-device capability and important factor, but also the speed in which the site loaded. If your site takes more than a few seconds to completely load, you may lose interest in their products, as well as tarnish their entire brand. We focused on keeping the design lite, with minimal backend plugins, eliminating any potholes to slow down the site loading process on all devices. Another issue we had to contend with was the flawless streaming of product informational videos its pages. We were able to successfully transfer the video codex into a quick streaming format, which enabled a visitor to quickly access them no matter what device they are visiting the site on.
Conclusion
By Seamus Tierney / Creative Director
When I first met the marketing team at Nova Medical Products I was immediately impressed with the air of excitement and fun that is the foundation of their company. The subject of mobility can often times be a very sensitive issue for those personally affected, and their care-giving loved ones. Whether you’re dealing with mobility options for a senior citizen, or someone that has mobility issues of a different kind, a person’s ability to get from point A to point B is a very important subject. Taking these issues very seriously, Sue Chen’s ability to inject fun and vitality into her company’s message helped me become even more excited about working with them on their website development, and now I personally view the importance of mobility issues in a whole different way.
